KAILUA-KONA — Hawaii Island police arrested 13 motorists for suspected driving under the influence of an intoxicant between June 12 and Sunday.
KAILUA-KONA — Hawaii Island police arrested 13 motorists for suspected driving under the influence of an intoxicant between June 12 and Sunday.
Of those, one was involved in a traffic accident and one was younger than 21, according to a Hawaii Police Department release.
That brings the year-to-date total to 538 DUI arrests, compared to 513 during the same time period last week — an increase of 4.87 percent.

To date, there have been 18 fatal crashes resulting in 20 fatalities. One of those crashes had multiple deaths.
At the same time last year, there had been 10 fatal crashes resulting in 11 fatalities. That’s an increase of 80 percent for fatal crashes, according to police.
There have been 652 major accidents so far this year, police added. There were 688 during the same period last year.
